How MoverProof Works
Our Principle
Moving is a low-trust, complaint-heavy industry. The FMCSA publishes exactly the data that exposes bad actors — but it lives in a clunky one-carrier-at-a-time lookup. We make it searchable and add context. We don't sell leads and we don't invent rankings. Every profile links to the official FMCSA record so you can verify for yourself.
Data Sources
FMCSA Census (“carrier-all-with-history”)
Published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration through the FMCSA Open Data Program on data.gov / data.transportation.gov. Contains every registered motor carrier: USDOT and MC numbers, operating authority (HHG / property / passenger), business address, fleet size, and insurance types and amounts on file. Refreshed monthly.

FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot
The authoritative per-carrier record: identification, size, commodity info, safety rating, and out-of-service inspection info. We deep-link to it on every profile so you always have the live federal record one click away.

FMCSA SMS / CSA Safety Data (Phase 2)
The Safety Measurement System publishes crash and inspection history, out-of-service rates, and BASIC percentiles across seven safety categories, updated monthly. We'll join this to benchmark each carrier against national averages.
What We Verify
- USDOT active: The carrier has an active USDOT registration
- HHG authorized: Authorized to move household goods across state lines
- Insurance on file: Cargo and liability insurance filed with FMCSA
- Safety rating: Satisfactory / Conditional / Unsatisfactory / Unrated, with the rating date
- Out-of-service rate (Phase 2): At or below the national average
Our Honesty Guardrails
- We reproduce the FMCSA record and link to the official SAFER snapshot — we never invent authority, insurance, or safety data.
- “Insurance on file” means filed with FMCSA, not a guarantee of current active coverage.
- “Not authorized for HHG” is a factual authority-status statement, not an accusation.
- “Unrated” safety status is labeled neutrally — it's common and not inherently bad.
- Every profile shows the FMCSA data snapshot date.
